India vs Netherlands Group B Match 25

World Cup Cricket 2011

9 Mar, 2011 - Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi

ICC World Cup 25th Match, India v Netherlands, Group B - India beat Netherlands by 5 wickets to consolidate their Group B lead.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Netherlands batting line up crashed to 127/7 in 38 overs even though they got a good start, taking 56/1 in 15 overs. Zaheer Khan took three wickets for 20 runs to help India bowl out the Netherlands for 189 at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.Chasing a modest target of 190 to win, India were given a flying start by openers Virender Sehwag (39 off 26 balls) and Sachin Tendulkar (27 off 22 balls) as they added 69 runs in just 7.3 overs. However, a triple strike by Pieter Seelaar and another wicket by Peter Borren had India struggling at 99/4 at one point of time. Yuvraj rescued the home team from this precarious position and guided them to a 5 wicket victory over Netherlands with 81 balls to spare and consolidated their top spot in the points table. India now have 7 points from 4 games with England, who have 5 points off as many games, at the second place. India is still Group B's only unbeaten team, with just a tie against England spoiling its 100 per cent record.Sachin Tendulkar, today added another feather in his cap when he became the first batsman to score 2,000 runs in the World Cup. He achieved the feat during his 27-run knock in their group B match against the Netherlands at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Playing in his 40th World Cup match, the champion batsman reached the milestone in style, smashing Ryan ten Doeschate for three consecutive boundaries.
India 191/5 (36.3 ov) (Cooper 29, Borren 38, Zaheer Khan 6.4-0-20-3) beat Netherlands 189 (46.4 ov) (Sehwag 39, Tendulkar 27, Yuvraj Singh 51, Seelar 10-1-53-3) by 5 wickets
